Meta Data Empire Expansion

Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has launched a new application called Threads
, which is a direct clone of Twitter. The app is linked with Instagram, owned by Meta, and is being used to collect massive amounts of user data.
In the first two days of its launch, Threads had over 70 million downloads, making it the most fast downloaded app in history. This number is significant since Threads is linked with Instagram, which has 2.9 billion potential users. To put this into perspective, Twitter has only 400 million users.
Threads is being used as a data collection tool for Meta, and it can gather user data across 25 different categories, including sensitive information that Twitter does not collect. These categories encompass various aspects of user activity and personal details. Additionally, Meta's main aim is not to get new users, but to get more information on the users they have. With 3.81 billion users, which is about 50% of the world's population, Meta has access to an enormous amount of information.
One significant concern with the Threads app is that it is linked with Instagram. This means that all followers and people that a user follows on Instagram will be automatically transferred over to Threads. Unfortunately, users do not have the option to delete their Threads account. Instead, they must delete their Instagram account to remove their data from Threads. Deactivating a Threads profile does not result in the deletion of Threads data or have any impact on the user's Instagram account. Additionally, Threads can access information like location even if the user has not given permission through third-party apps.
The European Union has not allowed the installation of Threads in 27 countries due to the amount of data collection happening by Meta. However, some celebrities are using VPN to download the app for fame.
It is essential to understand that Threads is a data collection tool and that users need to be cautious about what they put in the app. When signing up for these platforms, users can create a separate email address like user+[meta]@example.com
to see what data is being sold from Meta or other companies and to whom.
In conclusion, Meta's Threads app is a powerful data collection tool that users need to be aware of when using Instagram. It is essential to understand the risks of using such apps and to take necessary precautions to protect one's private data.
